[It's him, though only the goggles were in view, his headband having been neatly adjusted so that it was just dark blue cloth and the metal plate was quite hidden in the folds of material. It was definitely long enough for it. He was also lounging back on a bed with a blank wall behind him, his charmander dozing on his chest]

So. How many of you have had a moment where you're sitting there going 'when the hell did I become the smart one?'

I mean, I've never been stupid, but things have been ridiculous lately.

Not that they'd have to worry about dieing here, but still.

That doesn't mean you can't be permanently crippled~. You know that right? When you wake up after dying I understand only the injury that killed you is fixed.

Actually, I've never really gotten any decent data on what happens when you go through something that should cause that sort of crippling... though there's a lot of overlap between that and what would cause death. Nor do I know any people who've gone through death before they got here, or at least, if I do they haven't mentioned it to me.

But it was still... death. You died. That's... that's something to be upset about, no matter how noble or amazing a death it was. You're gone, and your world is worse off now.

Nope. My death ended up giving my teammate something he's used well in the years since. I can't regret that.

You still died. I can't... I can't hear that, and not feel horrible. I just can't.

[Particularly given that unless she's very much mistaken, he's younger than her. And she's still barely an adult.]

Pretty please don't feel bad? I mean, it was the perfect death, just what I would've wanted if I couldn't actually make my other goal. Lots of people never get that.

Perfect death... I guess I can't really believe in something like that. There's just too much to do in life, I can't imagine ever being... ready to go, no matter how the end came.

Oh please, I was SO not ready, but I can't regret it. That would mean regretting saving the people I care about and giving at least one of them the means to actually make it.

Regret? No, I wouldn't call it that at all. I don't doubt you made the right decision, and I'm sure there's a reason things turned out the way they did. That doesn't make it any less painful. Nothing does.

If I hadn't died then you probably wouldn't have met me. Doesn't that make it a happier event? You can't be sad for someone you never met right?

What do you mean?

Knowing something terrible has happened to someone is reason enough for me to be sad. It doesn't have to be someone I know. Sometimes, it doesn't even have to be something that really happened.

[She sighs and one of the corners of her mouth quirks up a bit.] I guess that's strange. But I can't help it. It's just a part of who I am.

I'm.... really not used to anyone thinking that way.

Your world's probably a lot different from mine. From what I've heard of other worlds, it wouldn't surprise me.

... Peaceful. Well, usually. When Chaos Spirits aren't being unleashed, or swarms of creatures who feed on love invading, or ancient empires resurfacing whose former rulers have been transformed into shadowy beings bent on revenge.

But those kinds of things don't happen too often. Usually, it's pretty tranquil. Everyone goes about their lives safe and sound, free to follow their aspirations and use their talents whatever way they feel is best.

That first part? That's my normal.
