Kunai the 18th: [Video/Action Vermillion]

[The feed clicked on, and for the first time in months everyone got a view of an orange and dark blue clad shinobi. His goggles were off his face, and his headband was nowhere on his head, likely because he was trying to scrub something off of the metal plate and had it in his lap, but otherwise he looked well enough, a bit bigger, lankier, but otherwise, fine.

Some people would be able to note he looked much more at peace too, under his irritation.]

Okay, enough is enough!

I mean it.

I fall out of contact for a few weeks, and what happens? Everyone up and decides to go home! Let me tell you something. I am so not thrilled by this.

So I don't care if we fought last we talked, or haven't spoken in months for no good reason, or anything like that. If you recognize me, come say hello to me because I would like to know who is left around here.

This is stupid, and I apologize right now in a blanket 'yeah I get it, it's my fault too' for any and everything that might've kept us from talking.

I really don't know how I feel about the fact that that actually made the whole thing make sense.

Of course it did - everything's better when you're in charge of it. Or at least you think it is, even if it's not. But that usually takes a particularly talented idiot to pull off, because most idiots aren't able to be in charge for very long.

[Another shrug.]

[It had felt like a long time since she had seen Obito around. They had definitely last parted on a sour note, with Kushina learning about what he would apparently grow up to be and her... dropping more spoilers on him than she meant to. Needless to say, the group splitting and the mutual departure from Blackthorn had been welcome and the space helped soothe the damage.

But seeing him on the network again brought all the memories and emotions back. There was a part of her that was still bitter and hurting. And yet... Most of her could only still think of him as her husband's student. The brave and loyal ninja who put his friends above himself. A kid she would've been proud to call her son.

And then on playing the message, she heard the call-out. "I don't care if we fought last we talked, haven't spoken in months for no good reason, or anything like that." Sure this could probably apply to some of her family, but there had been a pretty blatant break between them. Kushina had coped by throwing herself into focusing on her family, traveling, training, working, meeting other people... Basically avoiding any contact with Obito who... Hadn't done anything to hurt her. Not yet, by his timeline.

She flipped around, just skimming over a few other posts, but always flipping back to Obito's message. Several times she had her finger hovering the button that would allow her to do a voice reply before she changed her mind. Her mind changed one final time on listening to one of the other conversations. And maybe having Kyuubi stare her down with the same look her gave her on their first night together in Blackthorn, complete with a paw on her arm, was the final push to bring her finger down on the button. Except she hit video instead of voice. So Obito gets a view from next to her. She looks down at her 'gear once in a while while she talks, but her attention's divided between it and yet another sewing project ~~that I haven't decided on what it is yet~~.]

...How've you been?

[Okay, it's not a "hello" but it's something.]

[He just... stared at her. Because she was making sense... and had he really thought like that? It was possible. It was beyond possible especially if he'd taken the Hokage thing, punted it to taking over the world and...

Damn.]

Usually something like that is a bit more, I dunno, hard to reset. Then again I guess I'd kicked at it for over a decade so that would've meant I was that kind of idiot.

[He'd been hopeful, on some level, that she would call him... but the part of him that had been burned just a few too many times had been stomping it down. It meant that he was maybe a little too grateful, a little too intense for a moment when he first answered her reply.]

[He cleared his throat, mentally throttling himself to not be a completely pathetic moron at her.]

I've had better months... but a lot worse ones too.

[He really smiled then,giving a sharp nod.] I think it'll happen. I mean... the happiness part. It's hard to stay depressed forever, you know?

There are too many things keeping you from being depressed all the time. You just need to see them.

Maybe. Either that or you were just particularly determined, which doesn't always mean you're an idiot. All geniuses are just particularly determined idiots if you're looking at them the right way.

...But given how stupid the idea actually is, you're probably just that kind of idiot.

I've been doing a lot of training with my collection, spending time with my friend Neji. I've also had my gear off which was apparently a terrible idea but... it wasn't so bad.

[He couldn't help it. He laughed, honestly laughed about this topic for the first time since this whole mess had begun.]

[Clearly it wasn't aimed at you! You actually talk to him pretty regularly!]

Yeah, he followed me out here. I think that Hosenka has a crush. Not sure how I feel about that.

[He scoffs.]

Don't allow Inuzuka to be a poor influence on Hosenka. [One like Inuzuka is bad enough.] At the inn. [Meditite peeks over his shoulder and beams at the camera, apparently recognizing Obito's voice.] Where are you? The Pokecenter? [Because there's food they need, Obito.]

Yeah, I was just collecting the last of mine for the night. Had a biiiit of a mishap training earlier and had to uh, put Tai out. She was kinda on fire.

[The pink bunny in question peeked over Obito's shoulder, looking none the worse for wear.]

But we're all good now and I should be circling back that way. The others haven't been a pain while I've been out have they?

Cause I'll talk to them when I get back if I need to!

[He gave Tai a considering look, and Meditite leaned forward to wave at the other pokemon.

...But it's funny you should mention pain...]

Henge has been harassing the maid on her rounds. I believe the manager will be investigating again to see that we're only three people.

....Okay I'll talk to the manager on my way up to the room. Anything else I need to handle?

[And then he'd talk to Henge about timing and appropriate flirting targets. Again.]

[Her heart ached a little at his address for her. Had she missed it? Maybe a little, but she doesn't say. Her eyes close for a moment, the needle in her hand pausing before continuing to slide in and out of the fabric.]

Are you gonna be alright?

[He managed to contain himself better with his next answer.]

I'll always be alright eventually. I spring back like that, you know, habit.

But... I know it's pointless to keep chewing on it, so no need to worry about that I guess.

Nothing immediately pressing. [Neji has been raising and keeping an eye on these pokemon like two months at the shortest. Except Shino's. The point is, he's got it handled.

So could.... you check on Mokuton for me? She's picked up a weird habit of sleeping on things that can't actually support her weight lately.

Mokuton? [He glances off camera a moment.] I had wondered why I've had to shoo her off the table a few times. Is there a reason she's picked up the habit?

I suspect she's gotten fed up with the smaller pokemon laying at her and thinks higher will solve it. She's a sun bather you know. Unimpeded sun and all that.

That's no excuse for night time reclining. You should speak with her before she finds something while I'm not looking and causes property damage.

I know. I've been trying to get it out of her, but you know how she is. She's stealthy because of her silence. She'd make an excellent nin-snake back home wouldn't she?
