[The first thing that everyone hears as the connection turns on is a rather loud, painful sounding clatter which indicated that the Pokédex had just made a rather abrupt acquaintance with the ground.]

Ah crap. Sorry! Sorry everyone! [The picture resolves itself at this point into a rather sheepish looking teenager, who is turning the device this way and that, clearly trying to determine which way was up.] I'm kinda new here and haven't gotten used to all the new technical stuff that this place seems to have. This thing is pretty sleek though right? Even if the road is pretty, well, snowy. And cold. But hey, I have Katon so it's not like I'll freeze!

[There was a nearly upside down showing of his Ponyta at this point before he finally settled on an angle, which thankfully seemed to be right way up as the camera focused on him again.] Anyway, I just wanted to give an all call and a hello to everyone out there and ask a rather uh, specialized question.

Only a few of you might get what I'm getting at here but, um, did anyone else seriously fail the whole climbing ledges class after getting here that I could have sworn that I'd passed when I was seven? I mean, I got down fine but... serious issues getting back up.

Like, really serious issues.

There's a class for climbing ledges?

I will say that the ones here are just like they were in the games, where they are only a one way street. Once you go down, you can't go back up them.

Well, where I'm from there was.

[He made a face then whipped it around to show her the ledge in question before turning it to face himself again.]

Back home I could have climbed that easy peasy! Here I can't even climb it the civilian way, since the shinobi way seems all kinds of fail, and that's just -weird-!

Wait. Games? We're inside a game like, a board game?

Sounds like a strange sort of class to have, but then again, it sounds a bit exciting if it's an actual class to pass!

Yes, a video game to be precise! I only played the version that has all the details of the Kanto region, but Johto has very much the same idea!

[She's so curious though since he said SHINOBI and she's heard the word from Dirk a few times..] So are you a ninja? Shinobi means ninja, right?

Video game huh? Can't say it's something I've actually heard of before.

[He shook his head an blinked at her before grinning.] Yeah it totally does. I am a Chunin Shinobi of Konoha. [He tapped the metal plate resting just above his goggles.] You see these hitai-ates on people from where I'm from.

Haven't seen anyone else around from there yet though. But yeah, back in the Academy it was one of the drilled skills, like trap making.

No? Perhaps it's just something not made in your time yet!

[Nodding at seeing the headband, Jane smiles.] I see! Well, you have only just arrived pretty much, so it may take a little for them to see you? Trap making too.. now if only I had gone to your school instead, I may not have needed to be homeschooled!

This place disables things like cliff climbing unless you got specific badges. It's really stupid. [Says the guy who is scratching his Rapidash's nose.]

You need the hm strength to do it. If you challenge gym leaders in pokemon fights you get it. Or so I've heard.

Homeschooled? What's that mean exactly? Man, too man phrases I don't know get flung around this place. [He clutched his head and gave her a grin, sheepish.]

People are going to think I'm uneducated or something huh? Especially since I can't even climb a rockface anymore. I mean, come on!

You just used a whole lot of words that made absolutely zero sense to me. How can a badge let you climb a cliff?!

That's just... weird. Is it like... a seal thing?

Ok, let me go back and explain that. This world operates on different functions than the one you know. One of those things is until you do certain things, other shit's locked from you. Like climbing cliffs.

But things you know like moving lightning fast, you're limited to average human speeds. It's a pain. Badges unlock things. More gym leaders you take on, more you can do. Unless your trainer card said 'breeder' then they just need the hm to do whatever.

Hms are those bigger things like Strength, fly, surf, etc that you teach to pokemon which is your buddy right there. If you've got a pokemon that can fly, cuts your travel time in half or more. Any of that make sense?

Kami being dead is complicated. Okay, so, yes on the breeder thing. But hey, I got the awesome pony on fire here so I don't think I got the bad end of the deal. Still working on the whole 'hey let me ride you' thing, but that'll happen right?

So, train pokemon for battle, be awesome and do stuff like that. Man, and I just got the spiffy family bloodline too and now, nothin. Ah well. I'll focus on the upside of the pony on fire thing.

Oh! Right! So. How do I know what Katon can do anyway? I mean, if I'm training there has to be -some- trick to it.

Ledges are impassable in this world, as far as going uphill is concerned.

Awesome! I'm the dude standing in the trail with the giant flaming pony.

[And then he completely failed to turn off the connection as he moved to plant himself in the middle of said trail.]

Alright, I'll look for a guy wearing goggles with a Ponyta.

[He has not yet figured out that the guy has forgotten to turn off the gear as he follows the well-traveled route]

[And just as the picture on the gear showed, in upside down fashion, so too was it in reality as the guy leaned on his ponyta, gaze wandering here and there, and pretty much immediately zeroing in on the other boy the moment he got into view.]

Hiya!

[Seeing the other boy, he pauses to switch his gear off and put it away. That done, he lifts a hand to wave]

Hey.

[And, after a beat]

I hear most people stay indoors in this weather, I'm surprised.

[Seeing the gesture immediately had him fumbling the machine to do the same. So there -was- an off switch! Good to know.]

Well, I'm not most people, and I'm pretty warm, what with Katon and all.

[Hand waved at the ponyta here.]

And it's not good spending what money I got before I -need- to. So, hi!

Oh right, introduction things happen now don't they? I'm Obito.

I'm...

[He trails off, pondering how to explain this in a manner that won't be utterly confusing]

I actually have someone else's name. I wouldn't call it mine, but I'll answer to Riku.

[Have a confused face, then a grin.]

So you're named after someone who's already here? Yeah I can see why that'd get confusing. You need a nickname? Cause I can totally help with that!

I have a lot in common with Riku, but... I'm better with machines and research I suppose. Protecting and collecting information were my jobs, I guess you could say.
