First Kunai: [Video]

[The first thing that everyone hears as the connection turns on is a rather loud, painful sounding clatter which indicated that the Pokédex had just made a rather abrupt acquaintance with the ground.]

Ah crap. Sorry! Sorry everyone! [The picture resolves itself at this point into a rather sheepish looking teenager, who is turning the device this way and that, clearly trying to determine which way was up.] I'm kinda new here and haven't gotten used to all the new technical stuff that this place seems to have. This thing is pretty sleek though right? Even if the road is pretty, well, snowy. And cold. But hey, I have Katon so it's not like I'll freeze!

[There was a nearly upside down showing of his Ponyta at this point before he finally settled on an angle, which thankfully seemed to be right way up as the camera focused on him again.] Anyway, I just wanted to give an all call and a hello to everyone out there and ask a rather uh, specialized question.

Only a few of you might get what I'm getting at here but, um, did anyone else seriously fail the whole climbing ledges class after getting here that I could have sworn that I'd passed when I was seven? I mean, I got down fine but... serious issues getting back up.

Like, really serious issues.

[He watches the wobbly video closely and nods after a few moments]

[He beamed at him.]

Awesome! I'm the dude standing in the trail with the giant flaming pony.

[And then he completely failed to turn off the connection as he moved to plant himself in the middle of said trail.]

Alright, I'll look for a guy wearing goggles with a Ponyta.

[He has not yet figured out that the guy has forgotten to turn off the gear as he follows the well-traveled route]

[And just as the picture on the gear showed, in upside down fashion, so too was it in reality as the guy leaned on his ponyta, gaze wandering here and there, and pretty much immediately zeroing in on the other boy the moment he got into view.]

Hiya!

[Seeing the other boy, he pauses to switch his gear off and put it away. That done, he lifts a hand to wave]

Hey.

[And, after a beat]

I hear most people stay indoors in this weather, I'm surprised.

[Seeing the gesture immediately had him fumbling the machine to do the same. So there -was- an off switch! Good to know.]

Well, I'm not most people, and I'm pretty warm, what with Katon and all.

[Hand waved at the ponyta here.]

And it's not good spending what money I got before I -need- to. So, hi!

Oh right, introduction things happen now don't they? I'm Obito.

I'm...

[He trails off, pondering how to explain this in a manner that won't be utterly confusing]

I actually have someone else's name. I wouldn't call it mine, but I'll answer to Riku.

[Have a confused face, then a grin.]

So you're named after someone who's already here? Yeah I can see why that'd get confusing. You need a nickname? Cause I can totally help with that!

Yeah, it's...complicated.

[And while he has no problem explaining it, he does figure there are better times for him to do so. His past isn't terribly important]

A "nickname"? Like a Pokémon?

Hey! People have nicknames too! But, hrm. I don't really know anything about you. Tell me something you know, that makes you all you-ey.

[His brow furrows at the term.

What's distinctive about him? He's the facsimile of someone else...]

I have a lot in common with Riku, but... I'm better with machines and research I suppose. Protecting and collecting information were my jobs, I guess you could say.

Geeze, you sound a lot like my teammate, Rin.

[There's a pause here, because he really really shouldn't but... well... it's not like she was -here- and he was -bad- with names so...]

You know I bet she wouldn't mind if you used her name! I mean, she's not -here- so it's not like there'll be confusion about it! Unless you don't like it, then we can think of more options.

Rin...?

[He weighs that over for a few moments. It sounds like a decent name, and he hasn't met anyone in Johto who goes by that...]

[After some consideration, he has no objections to that suggestion]

Sounds fine.

[And added bonus that this was a guy, so no way he'd ever mix it up either. Awesome! Though he had the inkling that might weird out anyone else that knew him and knew Rin but... let's not go there.]

Okay! Rin it is. So, you've been here before? I was kinda thrown by the sudden wake up call, and the ledges, and the being intact and... more. Yeah. A lot.

[He nods]

I was here a couple of months. From the calendar, that was a while back, but things seem the same.

What do you mean by intact?

Well, before I woke up here I was missing this eye.

[He put a hand over his left eye.] I gave it to my other teammate, Kakashi, because he was missing one from earlier that day and this half of me- [this time an indication of his entire right side] Was completely smooshed under rocks.

So I figured I died and woke up here. Makes sense, right?

[Death doesn't exist in his world, not in the form others understand it to be, and he recognizes that. It takes him a moment to respond]

I see why you'd think that. I'm...I don't normally have a human body, so I didn't know what to think at first.

This place isn't an afterlife though.

Well, even if it's not, it might as well be, right? I mean, I died. Hero's death and all that, but still superdead is dead. And now, not dead. So, might as well call it an afterlife, since all the rules are different anyhow, see?

Point taken. A lot of people are alive where they're from, and a few like me weren't human. This place has some kind of power I'm unfamiliar with. It not only draws us all here, but changes us.

I'm gonna miss being an awesome shinobi but hey, it happens. So... you've been here before, and I was headed that way. [He pointed off down the path.]

And it's warmer walking so... c'mon! We can talk while we walk! Like, you can tell me what's up with the critters here and why I don't even have a pocketknife.

[He has no problem following that indication, so he starts walking. A pink, gelatinous thing peeks out of his hood, glancing about]

You mean Pokémon? They're given to us in place of our powers and weapons, which none of us have once we arrive here.

[After a pause, he can't not ask]

What is a "shinobi," exactly?

Well another word for a shinobi is a ninja, most civilians prefer to use that one. Ummm. Well, I used to be able to do things like walk up walls and spit fire and stuff, though I'm pretty sure I can still throw a kick ass punch if I felt like it.

What about you? What were you before here?

[Hello small thing, Obito is leaning in to look at you now, baffled.]

[And she even had goggles. Perhaps they all wear those]
