First Kunai: [Video]

[The first thing that everyone hears as the connection turns on is a rather loud, painful sounding clatter which indicated that the Pokédex had just made a rather abrupt acquaintance with the ground.]

Ah crap. Sorry! Sorry everyone! [The picture resolves itself at this point into a rather sheepish looking teenager, who is turning the device this way and that, clearly trying to determine which way was up.] I'm kinda new here and haven't gotten used to all the new technical stuff that this place seems to have. This thing is pretty sleek though right? Even if the road is pretty, well, snowy. And cold. But hey, I have Katon so it's not like I'll freeze!

[There was a nearly upside down showing of his Ponyta at this point before he finally settled on an angle, which thankfully seemed to be right way up as the camera focused on him again.] Anyway, I just wanted to give an all call and a hello to everyone out there and ask a rather uh, specialized question.

Only a few of you might get what I'm getting at here but, um, did anyone else seriously fail the whole climbing ledges class after getting here that I could have sworn that I'd passed when I was seven? I mean, I got down fine but... serious issues getting back up.

Like, really serious issues.

Maybe! I will do my best to use what I know about that kind of thing to help. I mean, if we're gonna be partners, might as well get all the pokemon we get used to both of us even if there is a yours and mine divide for some stuff in there somewhere.

[Obito looked over his shoulder again, kinda sheepish.] And if I get way ahead of myself at any point over that whole thing, just bop me on the head and tell me to tone it down yeah? It's kinda new.

Alright. I should tell you that anything you catch, or that's registered to you, will be loyal to you foremost. You're their partner in a really big way, and it's important to keep in mind. We work together, but their relationship to you is very special to them.

[So he'll actually pause and wiggle out of the scarf, shrug his coat off, and hold that out for Obito to take.

While it sure didn't look like it, he is in fact wearing a shirt. The coat has no logic]

Here. I get warm pretty easy, and besides, I want to try something with Sync.

[He nodded immediately to show he understood. And he did! It wasn't unlike summons. Even among the family if you had a specific cat, that cat might work with other family members but it would still like you best and side with you if there was a dispute.]

I totally get that! Which is probably for the best really. [Katon punctuated this by chewing on his hair as Obito found himself with coat.]

Well if you say so. Your clothes are weird, by the way.

They're very much like people, even if we don't speak the same language. As for my clothes...it's just how I was made.

[He plucks Sync from the hood and gestures to the coat]

Think you can do that?

[Sync chirps in reply and soon enough, he's got himself a Ditto-coat]

Well done.

[Gives that copy-coat a pat and then puts it on]

See how long you can keep this up, Sync.

Oh yeah, the family cats were like that too. Whole bunch of them spoke human too, so if you didn't treat them like they deserved they would be all -over- you about it.

[He lifted a hand and petted Katon with a little grin.] Sooo, does this mean I should carry this around or put it on?

That doesn't actually sound strange to me. One of the best guys I know is a mouse.

[And oh, King Mickey's his hero because he's Riku's hero. Don't ever get him started]

[Hey, not protesting the free coat while it was on hand, and he swept it around himself while it was still warm. It was long on him. Because, well, he was five foot tall. Anything would be long on him really.]

Yep. I blame coming from a place where snow is a freak event to have happen pretty much ever. But yeah, the Inuzuka have really crazy awesome partnerships, and my family have the cats, and I won't even get into personal summons. [Well if they're not gonna walk, he's gonna lean on Katon while the ponyta chews on his head.]

Thinking of it like that helps a lot actually. I'm feeling way better about this whole thing now.

Climate conditions don't really exist in the Datascape. There are summons though, but I imagine there's different elements behind it. Where I come from, many things have to do with the heart.

The first time I came here, I had a Pikachu. I don't know where she is now, but I hope I can find her. There's no other Pikachu out there who'd be the same as her. It's like that with any teammate.

[He gave a wry smile at that.] I get that. I'm gonna miss my summon actually. I never fought with her or anything like that, but she was a companion that never scorned me when my family were all being jerks. Well, more than any cat would that is.

[Katon got more petting here, and he looked at the ponyta for a moment before he started to walk again.] Every being you encounter is their own personal creation, and no two will ever be just alike. But, well, that's a -good- thing. It means that you'll always -care-.

As for the heart thing... I dunno. In my family it's all about emotion but... that's not the same thing exactly, and it's not the whole -world-.

Strength of heart is paramount in the worlds I'm familiar with. Without that, there's no combating the darkness. Memories are there, and it has some bearing on capabilities. There's a particular weapon that only responds to that kind of strength, and it's very powerful.

[He folds his arms as he walks, wondering if that was an apt enough description. Hearts were everything, they were what made a person tick in more ways than one.

People here seemed to have a very different reality]

I may not understand it as well as some others from home, but I know Riku's feelings as though they had been mine. It gives me some grasp of it.

[Obito listened intently, then finally looked over at him, contemplative.]

Well, I know that even though there was a lot of formality, in my clan, the Uchiha I mean, strong emotions were always encouraged. Sure, you weren't supposed to feel it, but strong tempers and stronger love was a really big deal in the clan. Most of the family was jerks, sure, but the big point was that you really -felt- things.

I finally got it on the last mission. [He touched a hand to his goggles, giving a faint laugh.]

See, I was that guy who hung back in fights instead of charging to the rescue. I didn't get the family bloodline until I -did- charge to the rescue though. They just... you have to need them to make them work, and you have to -feel- it.

Is the darkness anything like that?

I don't think so. Darkness...it destroys people, twists the things that made them good into something you can barely recognize. I...

[Well he's dangerously close to spoilers about Riku he ought not visit upon people he just met, so he just shakes his head. At his sides, his hands are fists]

It's something best avoided.

[He watched him a moment, hesitant, then reached forward to touch his shoulder.]

[He does nothing more than blink at Obito at first, puzzled, and then waves it off]

I'm fine. Like I said, I remember someone else's pain. It's not really... [Well, it is his and it isn't, and he went through data corruption which wasn't fun, but worrying a guy he just met like that surely isn't his intent] I just know darkness is something to be wary of.

It's yours if you remember it and I was prying. We've been getting on so well I got ahead of myself and I shouldn't've. I mean, we're still pretty much strangers, right?

Because those memories really belong to someone else, it's just not my place to get into it. I haven't existed all that long as my own entity.

[He shrugs as though to shed the abrupt heavy turn of conversation]

Besides, you said you didn't have friends before, right? I don't always know how to act around people myself.

Yeah, I had comrades. I -wanted- to be friends, don't get me wrong but... it just... never quite worked out that way you know? I'm pretty sure friends don't get scornful to the point of declaring someone useless on a regular basis so... yeah. It'll be a nice change, something a little less harsh.

Depends on the friends. Sometimes you can say things that sound pretty harsh, but they don't mean the same things they might to a stranger.

At least, I think it works like that. Guys junk-talk or whatever it was.

[He doesn't know this fancy lingo. What is trash talking?]

That only works when you both know that the other guy isn't trying to hurt you. Trust me, Kakashi-jerk tended to aim to be as cutting as possible, and he's really smart too so he knew how to come at it. Which sucks. Lots.

Well...does he have friends?

Not a one. I think he likes it that way he...

Stuff went really bad for him, so I -get- it, but he doesn't make it easy to keep trying to get close, you know?

I doubt anyone likes being alone, but sometimes they believe it's tougher to get hurt that way.

Sounds like a tough nut to crack, but I'd say it's worth trying.

I suppose we'll have to see at what point in time he comes from. We're all different, the people from the worlds I know.
