[The first thing that everyone hears as the connection turns on is a rather loud, painful sounding clatter which indicated that the Pokédex had just made a rather abrupt acquaintance with the ground.]

Ah crap. Sorry! Sorry everyone! [The picture resolves itself at this point into a rather sheepish looking teenager, who is turning the device this way and that, clearly trying to determine which way was up.] I'm kinda new here and haven't gotten used to all the new technical stuff that this place seems to have. This thing is pretty sleek though right? Even if the road is pretty, well, snowy. And cold. But hey, I have Katon so it's not like I'll freeze!

Only a few of you might get what I'm getting at here but, um, did anyone else seriously fail the whole climbing ledges class after getting here that I could have sworn that I'd passed when I was seven? I mean, I got down fine but... serious issues getting back up.

No, I meant the -actual- definition of sex. The part that makes gender relevant.

Well crap. Okay. It's like this. Starting with the practical bit first. A male has the parts that hold half the DNA that you can use to make a baby, the female has the other half. What makes you a boy [He pointed at his crotch.] also means that you have the half that gets put inside the girl, who has parts that go in instead of out, following so far?

[A long bout of silence before he comments]

It sounds like an inefficient process.

Which is why it's -fun-. There's all these hormones and stuff that make the touching required for it feel really nice as long as both parties want to get into it. Which is why you sometimes get a pair of guys or a pair of girls together instead of a male and female, since they like how that feels even -more- and aren't trying to make babies, see?

...I think our definitions of fun differ.

I dunno, I haven't -had- sex, but I know that people and critters are made so it feels good and they -want- to further their species. It's just how it works. It's how you would've happened if you'd been born normal like instead of through a computer program. But, you're humanlike now and I bet you'd be able to feel all that stuff if you wanted to poke at it ever.

I've got better things to do. Besides, back home that's the sort of thing people reserve for marriage.

[He snickered and shook his head.] I'd be willing to bet it's like anywhere else and that's just what people -say- and not what people -do-.

Sides, I understand that a lot of civilian places won't marry couples of the same gender, not nice to make a couple like that never show each other they care like that if they wanna. Nothing wrong with waiting, sure, but it's not required.

...Where I come from people burst into song when they fall for somebody. I really doubt they bother with pretenses instead of waiting for that. People are very serious about it.

I've never heard of couples being the same gender.

If people did that back home they'd probably get laughed at. We show our affection by stalking people most times. Not always! But it's a pretty well accepted courtship method. Downside is if you're too good to get noticed, then you could bomb out entirely.

I'm unsure I understand what would be flattering about predatory behavior.

I would find it completely flattering myself, especially if the one stalking me was super dangerous. I mean, totally flattering. Me, making someone dangerous shy? Best compliment ever.

Not that everyone does that! Just, it's accepted as a method that you can use and people won't punish you for it if you're staying respectful. Most people are okay with just up and saying something but hey, not everyone can do that.

Nah, it's better that way. Maybe if we'd had more time together I'd've approached her but... Nah. I can let her go with a clear conscience this way, see? Find someone else to love.

I dunno, I bet you'd be totally capable of falling in love with someone. It's not always truly madly deeply love. Sometimes it's just quiet happy love.
