[The first thing that everyone hears as the connection turns on is a rather loud, painful sounding clatter which indicated that the Pokédex had just made a rather abrupt acquaintance with the ground.]

Ah crap. Sorry! Sorry everyone! [The picture resolves itself at this point into a rather sheepish looking teenager, who is turning the device this way and that, clearly trying to determine which way was up.] I'm kinda new here and haven't gotten used to all the new technical stuff that this place seems to have. This thing is pretty sleek though right? Even if the road is pretty, well, snowy. And cold. But hey, I have Katon so it's not like I'll freeze!

[There was a nearly upside down showing of his Ponyta at this point before he finally settled on an angle, which thankfully seemed to be right way up as the camera focused on him again.] Anyway, I just wanted to give an all call and a hello to everyone out there and ask a rather uh, specialized question.

Only a few of you might get what I'm getting at here but, um, did anyone else seriously fail the whole climbing ledges class after getting here that I could have sworn that I'd passed when I was seven? I mean, I got down fine but... serious issues getting back up.

Like, really serious issues.

Yeah well, you know and take in things super well and I'm all... flaily failtastic. I mean yeah sure I know all kinds of way to, you know, kill a guy or something, but that is supremely unhelpful when nobody is trying to hurt someone I care about.

If you feel that way, why not look into making those skills functional in other areas?

And I'm sure I'll find other uses too. I'm pretty sure the whole espionage and survival training won't go -completely- to waste, I just gotta figure it out. I just... feel a little useless cause you know all this stuff that's useful here and I haven't got a freaking clue. I'm glad, I mean, it makes you great, but I'm not proving all that useful to you yet now am I?

It's just what I was made for, I wouldn't call it a talent or skill so much as a matter of how I was built. There's a difference between what a program can do and what a human learns.

It'd only be a problem if I wasn't useful.

Don't put it like that man! You're human right now. Sure you may have been made awesome but it's no different than in a clan like mine where there's a lot of careful breeding for optimum genetics and whatnot. You just got it done more efficiently.

Breeding...for people? I can't say I've heard of that.

Oh yeah. Clans are super big on checking out any potential inbound mates and anyone marrying in from outside the clan -has- to be super exceptional. Otherwise it's encouraged to marry within the family as long as the relationship is far enough to avoid other y'know, issues.

...Sounds complicated.

Not as much as it sounds like, it's just, you know, not romantic.

Well, they do. They mean a lot, but it depends how valuable you are. The more powerful you are, the more likely it is that a marriage will be arranged for you to get the best babies, see?

I think people where I'm from would hate a setup like that.

Well, most people who get saddled into it do get a veto option if they have a good reason... and love isn't non-existent, not at all! I mean, the whole family is pretty affectionate and caring about each other. Family first, yeah? But, well, it's just how it is.

All seems pretty abstract to me. I'll have to take your word for it.

It's pretty hefty on the science, really. I only know so much cause my favorite aunt figure is the clanhead's wife so... yeah. I made the mistake of asking and I looked into it more to see how deep it went later.

People just love who they love back home. Stuff like that can pretty much move mountains, or that's what people say.

Well, there's nothing wrong with having scars from those places where people were cut from you. It's not good to simply forget, you hurt yourself more badly when you do things like that. So... Yeah, I'll look at it like that. Thanks!
