First Kunai: [Video]

[The first thing that everyone hears as the connection turns on is a rather loud, painful sounding clatter which indicated that the Pokédex had just made a rather abrupt acquaintance with the ground.]

Ah crap. Sorry! Sorry everyone! [The picture resolves itself at this point into a rather sheepish looking teenager, who is turning the device this way and that, clearly trying to determine which way was up.] I'm kinda new here and haven't gotten used to all the new technical stuff that this place seems to have. This thing is pretty sleek though right? Even if the road is pretty, well, snowy. And cold. But hey, I have Katon so it's not like I'll freeze!

[There was a nearly upside down showing of his Ponyta at this point before he finally settled on an angle, which thankfully seemed to be right way up as the camera focused on him again.] Anyway, I just wanted to give an all call and a hello to everyone out there and ask a rather uh, specialized question.

Only a few of you might get what I'm getting at here but, um, did anyone else seriously fail the whole climbing ledges class after getting here that I could have sworn that I'd passed when I was seven? I mean, I got down fine but... serious issues getting back up.

Like, really serious issues.

[No Rin, leather is warm, but so not snow gear for long trips. Not that Obito can talk, he should put on his spare clothes too.]

That sounds...troublesome.

[Obito apparently counted the pony as gear.]

And painful! You get the feeling back eventually you know! But, hey, look it it this way. Between the two of us we should stay warm enough, and your Pinky can always hop on Katon for warmth if the hood gets too cold or something.

[In that case, Rin's got a uh...anything his Ditto feels like being?]

I really ought to give it a name soon... [Meanwhile he's thinking about this cold-thing] I'll look into another coat. This one just makes it easier to tell me apart from others.

I'll just call it Pinky until you think of something then. [Happy nod and he dragged his bag around to rifle through it while they walked.] I got more stuff in here... Ah ha!

[Out comes a whole LOT of orange cloth. With one teeny tiny metal hitai-ate plate smack in the middle.]

This thing is huge, if we're gonna walk this close then here...

[Cue him wrapping it around his own neck, then slinging the ends up over Rin's shoulders and tugging them down between them.]

There! That's better right?

As I said, I was fine, but I appreciate the thought.

[This is what being absurdly humble does]

Were you cold?

[No worries Rin, Obito has enough vanity for both of you. Any more and you'd have no one to keep him from floating away.]

...Maybe a little. Weren't you?

[His friend, the Obito-balloon]

Not really. It might not look like it [What with that coat's low collar making it seem otherwise] but I've got plenty of clothing.

If there's anything I have a tough time with, it's food. The plainer it is, the better off I am.

Well in that case you're keeping me warm, so, yeah! I just... wasn't going to say anything. Since, you know. Kinda my own fault.

[Not that he made any move to -untangle- the mess he'd made of the scarf looping though. They'd fallen into a weirdly comfortable walking pattern after all.]

Oh man really? Well I like the more flavorful stuff so you can have my dull bits and I'll take your strong bits?

[Because that totally worked for him. Even if he phrased it really really badly.]

[Okay, he needs a hand back so he can try and fail to stifle a snort]

...And I think I'll call it Sync. The transform ability isn't unlike that function.

[Okay there was no missing that and he tilted his head to look at him... then realized what he just said.] Hey!

Actually, never mind, I'm not gonna ask you to clarify that bit. Sync huh? Definitely a cooler name than Pinky. What's Sync, the ability I mean, do anyway?

Data is broken up into individual units - bits or bytes.

Making files the same on multiple devices. So, copying or replicating data from one unit to another would be called sync - to synchronize.

[Looooong beat of silence.] Kami that seriously is way too much like my bloodline. It's pretty much a memorization thing and all. Perfectly mimicry once you have it mastered, to the point where it seems like your opponent is slowed down.

[He gave his head a good shake then.] You're just gonna keep laughing at me aren't ya?

I didn't laugh that much. It was more your turn of phrase than you. Although there's no data I'd really call dull...

[He takes his friends quite seriously. Just get a load of Sora, he takes that hardcore derp entirely seriously and that is a feat, ninja-buddy.

Dittos need to see something in front of them, or the copy's imperfect. I wonder though, if enough training could change that.

Maybe! I will do my best to use what I know about that kind of thing to help. I mean, if we're gonna be partners, might as well get all the pokemon we get used to both of us even if there is a yours and mine divide for some stuff in there somewhere.

[Obito looked over his shoulder again, kinda sheepish.] And if I get way ahead of myself at any point over that whole thing, just bop me on the head and tell me to tone it down yeah? It's kinda new.

Alright. I should tell you that anything you catch, or that's registered to you, will be loyal to you foremost. You're their partner in a really big way, and it's important to keep in mind. We work together, but their relationship to you is very special to them.

[So he'll actually pause and wiggle out of the scarf, shrug his coat off, and hold that out for Obito to take.

While it sure didn't look like it, he is in fact wearing a shirt. The coat has no logic]

Here. I get warm pretty easy, and besides, I want to try something with Sync.

[He nodded immediately to show he understood. And he did! It wasn't unlike summons. Even among the family if you had a specific cat, that cat might work with other family members but it would still like you best and side with you if there was a dispute.]

I totally get that! Which is probably for the best really. [Katon punctuated this by chewing on his hair as Obito found himself with coat.]

Well if you say so. Your clothes are weird, by the way.

They're very much like people, even if we don't speak the same language. As for my clothes...it's just how I was made.

[He plucks Sync from the hood and gestures to the coat]

Think you can do that?

[Sync chirps in reply and soon enough, he's got himself a Ditto-coat]

Well done.

[Gives that copy-coat a pat and then puts it on]

See how long you can keep this up, Sync.

Oh yeah, the family cats were like that too. Whole bunch of them spoke human too, so if you didn't treat them like they deserved they would be all -over- you about it.

[He lifted a hand and petted Katon with a little grin.] Sooo, does this mean I should carry this around or put it on?

That doesn't actually sound strange to me. One of the best guys I know is a mouse.

[And oh, King Mickey's his hero because he's Riku's hero. Don't ever get him started]

[Hey, not protesting the free coat while it was on hand, and he swept it around himself while it was still warm. It was long on him. Because, well, he was five foot tall. Anything would be long on him really.]

Yep. I blame coming from a place where snow is a freak event to have happen pretty much ever. But yeah, the Inuzuka have really crazy awesome partnerships, and my family have the cats, and I won't even get into personal summons. [Well if they're not gonna walk, he's gonna lean on Katon while the ponyta chews on his head.]

Thinking of it like that helps a lot actually. I'm feeling way better about this whole thing now.

Climate conditions don't really exist in the Datascape. There are summons though, but I imagine there's different elements behind it. Where I come from, many things have to do with the heart.

The first time I came here, I had a Pikachu. I don't know where she is now, but I hope I can find her. There's no other Pikachu out there who'd be the same as her. It's like that with any teammate.

[He gave a wry smile at that.] I get that. I'm gonna miss my summon actually. I never fought with her or anything like that, but she was a companion that never scorned me when my family were all being jerks. Well, more than any cat would that is.

[Katon got more petting here, and he looked at the ponyta for a moment before he started to walk again.] Every being you encounter is their own personal creation, and no two will ever be just alike. But, well, that's a -good- thing. It means that you'll always -care-.

As for the heart thing... I dunno. In my family it's all about emotion but... that's not the same thing exactly, and it's not the whole -world-.

Strength of heart is paramount in the worlds I'm familiar with. Without that, there's no combating the darkness. Memories are there, and it has some bearing on capabilities. There's a particular weapon that only responds to that kind of strength, and it's very powerful.

[He folds his arms as he walks, wondering if that was an apt enough description. Hearts were everything, they were what made a person tick in more ways than one.

People here seemed to have a very different reality]

I may not understand it as well as some others from home, but I know Riku's feelings as though they had been mine. It gives me some grasp of it.
