[He saw the hit coming, knew it would and Itachi made no move to block it. A jerk of his head from the impact and a step back as redness blooms across the cheek. It will certainly leave a bruise but he doesn't blame Sasuke or makes an attempt to retaliate. No this is his fault, a consequence of his actions.]

[So he simply turns back towards his brother.]

I'm not asking you to. But I will always love you.

[For a few long moments he was still, but at long last he stepped back and turned his back to the elder, beginning to walk away slowly but surely. He pauses when he's within range of the others, no looking at them when he speaks.]

I'm headed back to Olivine. I need to be alone. Yōgan.

[The large dog (Itachi might see it as similar to his own Growlithe) is released from the ball and Sasuke easily jumps onto his back, silently hurting the animal to take off before, in mere instants, he's out of sight.]

[Obito watched Sasuke's back for a long moment, then looked to Tenten and Evan, voice soft.] You two stay with him. I'll catch up when I can. Take care of him and let me know if he leaves Olivine before I get there. Okay?

[He made no move to follow himself though.] I'm counting on you both.

[No words are said to keep Sasuke or the two who came along with the Uchihas. He doesn't even watch but fixes his gaze on Obito instead. Time to face the cousin now. Unlike Sasuke who he knows so well, Itachi doesn't know what Obito will do.]

[He'd been young when Obito was killed and honestly, never expected to have to face him again until arriving in this world. Now here he is, looking smaller and younger than Itachi remembered. The younger cousin was now the older one.]

[He felt his gaze on him before he even turned around, and his expression was clouded, thoughtful and worried at once, and he finally padded over, peering up at Itachi.]

Even before getting it confirmed, I knew you had a better reason than the one Sasuke told me you told him.

[Like with Sasuke he doesn't back away, or even look prepared to defend himself from an attack if Obito decides to strike out.]

It was my intention for him to believe the lies until the end.

Makes sense. [He stared up at his face for a moment, and when he moved it was abrupt... but it wasn't a strike. No, it was a tight hug.]

[There's a tensing when it's not a hit but a hug. It's been eight years since he was hugged - eight years and two deaths. After a moment he relaxes and puts a hand on Obito's shoulder in return.]

Not quite. [There are still things - unforgivable things that he's done. That changes a person.]

The details aren't important. You still care about the people you care about, and you'd still do whatever you could to see them happy, right? In Sasuke's case that translated to his safety with hopes of happiness, but don't think you can pull it over on me that you don't want him to find peace too.

[He tightened the hug, resting his head on his shoulder.]

I mean sure, your methods went a bit stupid, but you've tried, right?

For eight years Sasuke walked the path I put him on, it's time for him to find his own.

[And yes, he's aware that the number doesn't match up with whatever Sasuke might have told him.]

[When it's clear that Obito isn't going to let go anytime soon, Itachi brings his other arm up to wrap around him.]

I attempted to do it all alone and I failed.

Well there you go. You know you're not alone now, right? [He looked up at him, giving him a wry smile.]

You'll never stop being my favorite relative, so if you ever need anything, don't be afraid to ask me, okay? I'll come. I'm sorry I left you without anyone to lean on when I died though, that couldn't have been good to you.

It's not quite the same. [Things are different here.]

I had Shisui, and then Sasuke. [Lost Shisui and couldn't tell Sasuke though. Basically it was hell.]

It doesn't have to be the same. You're falling into a dangerous situation, and I want you to know you're not alone from the start.

[He freed a hand, reaching up to poke him on the nose.] Got it? Shisui was too close to your age to really be support, and Sasuke was born after I died, so that's not the same at all. That's you supporting him. I may be younger now but you're still my baby cousin, no matter how big you got. Got it?

I didn't fall into anything. [He was put there - woke up there and everyone had spread his secrets. So Itachi was going along with it.]

[Did he just--? Seriously? Have a hair ruffle in return.] There are still things you don't know.

[Things Sasuke doesn't know (that he knows of). But it's not a 'no'.]

Yeah, you did. Guy in the Rockets has it out for anyone who identifies themselves as a shinobi, which means you'll be in his line of fire. Judging where you started... you'll probably end up meeting the guy sooner than later. His name is Bowser, and his dearest wish is to do bad things to Sasuke and anyone around him. Tsunade made it worse, trying to draw fire and instead telling him how to pick us shinobi out more effectively. Better you actually have warning about that, right?

[He moved his hand to the one on his head, resting it there with a wry smile.] I'm sure there's a lot I don't know, but it wouldn't change how I view you, cause you're my favorite cousin, and you'll always be the one I love best, no matter what life did to you.

I'm aware. [He took a little peek into things before posting.] My hitae-ai isn't here but it hardly matters considering my last name. In a week's time I'll be able to leave here and disappear. [Itachi's good at that.]

Thank you. [And he means it.]

Good. I didn't want to leave you at loose ends if no one bothered to tell you about it. [There was a moment of pause.]

You never need to thank me Itachi, it just is what it is.

They didn't. I took it upon myself to investigate. [He figured a few might be unwilling to share with him.]

[He waved it off.] Same difference. I'm glad you found out. I mean, I'd hate for you to get ambushed, because that suuuucks.

[He put his hand back on Itachi's. Clearly he found this an acceptable affectionate gesture, having their hands stacked on his head.]

You're not gonna up and fall out of touch, right? I can show you how to lock down your messages and stuff if you need me to.

As if I'd let myself be ambushed.

[Light teasing and another headrub.]

No. I won't. [He simply plans on being on the move a lot.] That is something I've got under control.

Okay good. And come find us from time to time! Get the badge and HM so you can fly out and meet us okay? I will so not be happy if you don't come see us from time to time.

[He leaned up, holding his gaze intently.] Cause, how old are you?

[jikogisei]

I'll be sure to stop by once in a while. [He'll call Obito ahead of time.]

[Blinks for a moment.] Twenty-one.

So I have seventeen years of hugs I owe you. [Have a sage nod Itachi, then another proper hug.]

So visit often.

That's not necessary. [This time he doesn't return the hug.]

So? What's that got to do with anything? You growing up doesn't make you NOT my baby cousin.

[He's getting that look on his face, you know, that one that says he's about to dig in his heels and never let you win the argument no matter how much logic you use at it.]

And I owe you every hug you would've gotten if I hadn't died, got it? Which is like, a bajillion.
